STAINLESS STEEL FASTENERS
Stainless steel fasteners as the name suggests are made out of stainless steel. It’s an alloy that consists a minimum of approximately 11% chromium. It is well known for it’s corrosion resistance. Our stainless fasteners are mostly made out of austenitic A2 (AISI 304) steel. Resistance to corrosion, staining and low maintenance make stainless steel an ideal material for many applications where both the strength of steel and corrosion resistance are required. Aztec International offers different types of stainless steel screws: low profile head screws specifically designed to be used on building façades.
We also offer SS410 (AISI 410) martensitic stainless steel. It is magnetic and can be hardened by heat-treatment like carbon steel. SS410 has good tensile strength, creep and fatigue strength and other mechanical properties. It is why it’s mainly used in steam turbines, jet engines and gas turbines, where the extra durability paired with corrosion resistance is required.
Stainless steel’s resistance to rusting results from the presence of chromium in the alloy, which forms a passive film that protects the underlying material from corrosion attack, and can self-heal in the presence of oxygen. Corrosion resistance and mechanical properties can be changed by altering the chemical composition of the alloy.
Austentic stainless steel are not hardenable by heat treatment since they posses the same microstructure at all temperatures:
- A2 is the best-known grade , also known as 18/8 and 18/10 for its composition of 18% chromium and 8% or 10% nickel, respectively
- A4 is the second most common austenitic stainless steel. The addition of 2% molybdenum provides greater resistance to acids and localized corrosion caused by chloride ions
Our fasteners can be powder coated in any colour.
